search & recovery service
lost a ring or article of sentimental value?
Lost a ring or article of sentimental value? Then we will attempt to recover it for you.
This a free service which the club has always provided for people who have lost jewellery, keys, tools, machine parts - in fact anything which is made from metal or has metal parts.
If you are a farmer or landowner we can help you to recover lost parts from farm machinery and also to trace underground pipes.
lost & found
One of the most satisfying aspects of our hobby is being able to help
people who have lost jewellery, keys, etc. John and Carole from Perth contacted me on 7th July 2009 to ask if I
could help find a ring which they had lost on the 4th at Dalerb picnic site
on the shore of Loch Tay, near Kenmore.
The ring was described as 18ct
gold with 3 diamonds, and a celtic design on either side. It had great
sentimental value having been originally Carole's engagement ring which
was remodelled about 7 years ago by a jeweller friend to incorporate
John's mother's wedding ring following her death in a car accident.
Unfortunately, many of our club members and SARG club members were
away on holiday at that time, and I was about to go away for 2 weeks. Loch Tay is quite a distance away for most folk, which didn't help
matters. I felt certain that the ring was probably still there, so on 1st
August, I set off at the crack of dawn to hunt for it before any day trippers
arrived on the scene. Within a couple of minutes in an area of cut grass
near a stone barbeque, I had a very strong signal - and there was the ring,
lying where it had fallen in the grass. I didn't even need to dig for it.
John and Carole had told me that they would be away on holiday from 24th July until the 6th August, so I left email and voicemail messages for
them. On their return, John contacted me to say that they were both
delighted and 'stunned' to learn that the ring had been found, especially as
there had been around 12 people searching the grass, line abreast on hands
and knees, without success, and John had also made two further trips to
the area on his own to look for it. A happy outcome for everyone!
